Today, we’re excited to finally share something we’ve been looking forward to for a very long time:
Montabi will officially launch on August 6, 2026, for PC and Xbox.
After years of development, countless iterations, community playtests, and an incredible amount of support from players around the world, we’re getting ready to bring Montabi into your hands.
To celebrate the announcement, we revealed a brand-new trailer during the Southeast Asian Games Showcase. And because we’re Mankibo, we decided to do things a little differently.
Instead of a traditional release date trailer, we made a rap.
Inspired by the classic creature-collecting game raps many of us grew up with, the Montarap features playable Montabi and serves as a fun introduction to the creatures you’ll meet throughout your adventure. It was one of the most ambitious trailers we’ve ever created, and we’re incredibly grateful to our publisher, Akupara Games, for helping us bring this wild idea to life.
What is Montabi?
Montabi is a creature collector roguelike deckbuilder with tactical grid-based combat.
In Montabi, you don’t build your deck by collecting random cards. Instead, you build your deck by taming Montabi.
Each Montabi comes with its own unique deck, skills, and playstyle. As you progress through a run, you’ll recruit new Montabi, discover powerful synergies, and create teams that fit your preferred strategy.
As your Montabi gain experience, they can evolve into stronger forms and unlock new cards, allowing your deck to grow and adapt throughout each playthrough.
We wanted every creature to feel meaningful, not only because of its appearance, but because of how it changes the way you play.
Tactical Battles on a 3×3 Grid

Combat in Montabi combines deckbuilding with tactical positioning.
Battles take place on a unique 3×3 grid where movement matters just as much as card choices. Positioning your Montabi correctly can help you avoid attacks, protect allies, and create opportunities for powerful combos.
You’ll also choose from different Trainers, each offering their own strengths and strategic approaches.
One important rule defines every battle: protect your Trainer. Much like the king in chess, if your Trainer falls, the battle is over.
See What’s New in the Demo

We’re also excited to announce that Montabi will be participating in Steam Next Fest this June with an updated demo.
Whether you’re returning after previous playtests or trying Montabi for the first time, the upcoming demo includes numerous improvements and updates based on community feedback.
If you haven’t tried Montabi yet, now is the perfect time to jump in and experience the game before launch.
Thank You
This announcement is a huge milestone for our team.
What began as an idea between a small group of passionate developers has grown into the biggest project we’ve ever created. Along the way, we’ve received invaluable feedback, encouragement, and support from our community, partners, content creators, playtesters, friends, and family.
A special thank you goes to Akupara Games for believing in Montabi and helping us bring the game to players around the world.
Thank you to everyone who has wishlisted, shared feedback, reported bugs, created content, or simply cheered us on throughout this journey.
We can’t wait for you to finally experience the full version of Montabi on August 6.
See you in the city, Trainers.
